§ 609.3471 — Records Pertaining to Victim Identity Confidential

Plain-Language Summary

Court records in sex trafficking and criminal sexual conduct cases that identify a minor victim are confidential and cannot be released to the public without a court order. The defendant's identity and other information in the records remain public.

Practical Notes
This law protects the privacy of minor victims of sexual crimes. Media and the public can still access case records, but any information that would identify the child victim is kept confidential. This protection applies to sex trafficking, all degrees of criminal sexual conduct, sexual predatory conduct, and sexual extortion cases.
