§ 611A.211 — Programs for Victims of Sexual Assault

Plain-Language Summary

This section directs the commissioner of public safety to award grants to programs that provide support services or emergency shelter and housing supports to victims of sexual assault. It also funds training, technical assistance, and education programs to raise public awareness about preventing sexual assault and about the problems victims face. Any public or private nonprofit agency may apply for a grant, and grantees must comply with the commissioner's administrative rules. For this section, "sexual assault" means any violation of sections 609.342 to 609.3453.

Practical Notes
Grant funding flows through the commissioner of public safety to public or private nonprofit agencies serving sexual assault victims. The statute defines “sexual assault” by cross-reference to the criminal sexual conduct statutes, sections 609.342 through 609.3453.
