§ 97B.022 — Apprentice-hunter/trapper Validation

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates the apprentice-hunter/trapper validation, which lets a person who lacks a firearms safety or trapper education certificate hunt or trap. A resident or nonresident age 12 or over born after December 31, 1979 (or born after December 31, 1989 for trapping) may buy the validation for two license years in a lifetime. While using it, the person may take small game, deer, and bear only when accompanied by a properly licensed adult, and must still obtain all required licenses and stamps. The validation fee is $3.50.

Practical Notes
The apprentice-hunter/trapper validation is a limited entry point for new hunters and trappers, not a full license. It can be purchased only twice in a lifetime, the holder must hunt while accompanied by a qualifying adult, and all other required licenses and stamps still apply.
