2025 Session Last amended: 1984 session

§ 1.042 — Consent of State

Plain-Language Summary

Minnesota gives the federal government permission to buy land in the state for buildings like courthouses, post offices, military bases, and other government purposes. The state hands over some control of this land to the federal government, but keeps certain rights like the ability to enforce state laws and collect taxes there.

Practical Notes
Even on land the federal government controls in Minnesota, the state can still collect income taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes from private individuals and businesses located there. State law enforcement can still serve warrants and make arrests on these federal properties.
