§ 116D.06 — Effect of Existing Obligations

Plain-Language Summary

This section makes clear that MEPA does not cancel or override existing legal obligations related to the environment. All other environmental laws, regulations, and agency duties remain in force. MEPA adds to existing environmental protections rather than replacing them. Agencies must still comply with all other applicable environmental requirements.

Practical Notes
MEPA environmental review does not substitute for permits or approvals required by other laws such as the Clean Water Act or air quality rules. A completed EIS does not guarantee project approval under other regulatory programs. Project proposers must track and comply with all separate environmental requirements in addition to MEPA review.
