§ 13.44 — Property Data

Plain-Language Summary

This section classifies property data held by government entities, including real estate appraisals, building plans, and property tax data. Appraisal data is generally nonpublic until the property transaction is complete.

Practical Notes
If a government entity is negotiating to buy or sell property, the appraisal information is not public until the deal is done or abandoned. Property tax records and most property ownership information are public. Building security plans may be classified as nonpublic for safety reasons.
