§ 142A.30 — Child Support Obligor Community Service Work Experience Program

Plain-Language Summary

This section allows the commissioner to place child support obligors who fail to pay and are physically able to work into community service work experience programs. Participants cannot be required to work more than 32 hours per week or more than six weeks per contempt finding. The program also covers injury protection for participants.

Practical Notes
If you already work 32 or more hours per week at an unsubsidized job, you are exempt from this program. Counties receive $200 per participant and must reimburse transportation costs up to $25 per month. If you are injured during the program, claims for medical expenses and disability are handled through a special process, not through workers’ compensation.
