§ 142E.08 — Mfip Child Care Assistance Program

Plain-Language Summary

This section establishes child care assistance for families receiving the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), which is Minnesota's welfare program. Families on MFIP are automatically eligible for child care assistance when they need it to participate in work or approved activities. The program covers child care costs above what the family can afford to pay.

Practical Notes
MFIP families who need child care to work, look for work, or complete job training should contact their county agency right away to arrange child care assistance. This benefit is not subject to the waiting lists that affect the Basic Sliding Fee program. Transition year child care continues to be available for a period after families leave MFIP.
