§ 142G.13 — Eligibility; Minor Child in Assistance Unit; Physical Presence

Plain-Language Summary

Your MFIP household must include at least one child under 18 or a pregnant woman. The child and caregiver generally must live together. There are exceptions for children away at school, in the hospital, or in short-term foster care.

Practical Notes
If a child or caregiver is temporarily away from home due to illness, hospitalization, or certain other reasons, the family can still receive MFIP for up to six months. A child receiving SSI can be part of the household, but their needs are not counted when figuring the MFIP payment amount.
