§ 142G.57 — Minor Parents; Employment Plan

Plain-Language Summary

MFIP caregivers under age 20 who do not have a high school diploma must have their educational needs assessed and develop an employment plan focused on completing their education. Caregivers age 18 or 19 can choose between an education-focused plan or a regular employment plan.

Practical Notes
If you are a teen parent without a diploma, education is your first priority. The county will help you choose the best school option and provide support services like child care. Caregivers under 18 work with the social services agency, while 18- and 19-year-olds can choose to work with either social services or an MFIP job counselor.
