§ 142G.64 — Employment and Training; Grant Diversion

Plain-Language Summary

Counties can divert all or part of a participant's MFIP cash payment to an employer to subsidize a job placement. The employer must pay the participant at least minimum wage and the same rate as other employees. Training is limited to nine months, and the employer agrees to hire the participant after training.

Practical Notes
Grant diversion turns your welfare payment into a wage subsidy, so you get a real paycheck from an employer instead of a welfare check. The goal is permanent employment with that employer. Your placement must match your assessment and employment plan, and additional employment and training funds can supplement the grant diversion.
