§ 147.032 — Interstate Practice of Telehealth

Plain-Language Summary

Doctors licensed in another state can provide telehealth services to patients in Minnesota without a full Minnesota license if they register with the board each year. They must have a clean license, cannot open an office in Minnesota or see patients in person here, and must pay a $75 annual fee plus a $100 initial fee. Some exceptions apply for emergencies, infrequent services, or consultations with a Minnesota-licensed doctor.

Practical Notes
Out-of-state physicians providing telehealth to Minnesota patients must register annually with the Board of Medical Practice and agree to be subject to Minnesota law. Emergency care, services provided fewer than once per month or to fewer than ten patients per year, and consultations where a Minnesota physician retains authority are exempt from the registration requirement. Physicians must also comply with Minnesota health records laws.
