§ 148E.116 — Provisional License; Supervised Practice

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets the supervision requirements for social workers who hold provisional licenses. A provisional licensee must complete at least 37.5 hours of supervision during the first 2,000 hours of practice, at a minimum rate of 3 hours per every 160 hours worked. Supervisors must meet specific qualifications including 30 hours of training in supervision. This supervised practice does not count toward the requirements for a full license.

Practical Notes
Provisional license supervision is separate from and does not replace the supervised practice requirements for a full license. Supervisors of provisional licensees must have completed 30 hours of supervision training, which is an additional requirement beyond normal supervisor qualifications. The supervision plan must be submitted within 30 days of starting a job under a provisional license.
