§ 152.0261 — Importing Controlled Substances Across State Borders

Plain-Language Summary

Makes it a felony to bring first-degree quantities of controlled substances into Minnesota across state or international borders, or to use a person under 18 to import any amount constituting a controlled substance crime. Penalties include up to 35 years in prison and $1,250,000 in fines.

Practical Notes
This importing charge can be brought in addition to underlying possession or sale charges, creating exposure to consecutive sentences. It applies even if the person is merely passing through Minnesota. Jurisdiction lies in any county the substances were brought into or through. This is among the most severely punished drug offenses in Minnesota.
