§ 156.077 — Licensed Veterinary Technicians

This section creates the licensed veterinary technician credential in Minnesota. To qualify, you must graduate from an accredited veterinary technology program, pass the national and state exams, and complete a background check. Only licensed individuals may use the title 'veterinary technician' or 'LVT.'

Practical Notes
Until July 1, 2031, there is a temporary alternative path for experienced veterinary technicians who are already certified or have at least 4,160 hours of practice. This section takes effect July 1, 2026. After that date, using the title ‘veterinary technician’ without a license is prohibited.
