§ 171.24 — Violations; Driving Without Valid License

Plain-Language Summary

Driving after your license has been suspended, revoked, or canceled is a crime in Minnesota. Driving while suspended or canceled is a misdemeanor. Driving while revoked is also a misdemeanor, but becomes a gross misdemeanor if you were required to use an ignition interlock device.

Practical Notes
The penalties increase if you did not have a valid license in the first place or if you have prior convictions. A gross misdemeanor can mean up to one year in jail and a $3,000 fine.
