§ 177.50 — Earned Sick and Safe Time Enforcement

Plain-Language Summary

This section provides enforcement rules for Minnesota's earned sick and safe time law. Employees have three years to sue for violations. If an employer fails to provide required sick and safe time, the employer owes the missed time plus an equal amount as damages. The commissioner can make grants to community groups for worker outreach and must report to the legislature each year on violations.

Practical Notes
If your employer does not give you earned sick and safe time as required by law, you can recover double the value of the time you should have received. You have three years to file a claim. Employers must also make sure their contractors comply with sick and safe time requirements.
