§ 18G.06 — Establishment of Quarantine Restrictions

Plain-Language Summary

The commissioner can establish quarantine zones to restrict the movement of plants, soil, equipment, or other materials that might carry regulated plant pests in or out of affected areas. Quarantine restrictions can apply to individual properties, municipalities, counties, or regions of the state. Quarantines are lifted when the commissioner determines the pest risk no longer justifies the restrictions.

Practical Notes
If your property or county is under a plant pest quarantine, you may not be able to move certain plants, wood, or soil without a permit or inspection. Violating quarantine restrictions is a serious offense that can result in fines and legal action. Check the Minnesota Department of Agriculture website for current quarantine zones before moving plant materials or firewood.
