The Secretary of State examines each type of system for accuracy, durability, and compliance with the law. Systems must also be certified by a federal testing authority.

Practical Notes
No voting system can be used in Minnesota without approval from the Secretary of State. Vendors must pay an examination fee, post a $5,000 bond, and provide source code for review. Each polling place must have an accessible voting system for voters with disabilities.
