2025 Session Last amended: 2023 session

§ 206.58 — Authorization for Use

Plain-Language Summary

A city, town, or county governing body may approve the use of an electronic voting system in its precincts, but only if the system has been approved by the Secretary of State. Once adopted, the municipality must continue using the system for state elections. The public must be informed about any new voting system at least 60 days before the election.

Practical Notes
If your city or county adopts electronic voting, it must stick with it for state elections. Before the first election with a new system, a demonstration must be available to the public for six weeks. Counties need municipal approval before adopting systems for use in a municipality.
