2025 Session Last amended: 2007 session

§ 244.04 — Good Time

Plain-Language Summary

Inmates can earn 'good time' that shortens how long they stay in prison by following facility rules. For crimes committed before August 1, 1993, inmates earn one day off for every two days of good behavior. Good time can be lost for breaking rules, but a single violation cannot result in losing more than 90 days.

Practical Notes
Good time rules differ depending on when the crime was committed. For crimes on or after August 1, 1993, the earned incentive release credit system under section 244.44 applies instead.
