§ 244.065 — Private Employment of Inmates or Specialized Programming for Pregnant Inmates of State Correctional Institutions in Community

Plain-Language Summary

This law allows the Commissioner of Corrections to release inmates into the community for work, job seeking, education, or vocational training after they have served half their sentence. It also allows pregnant inmates or those who recently gave birth to be released for up to one year after delivery for prenatal or postnatal care, parenting programs, and mother-child bonding.

Practical Notes
Inmates must have served at least half their sentence to qualify for work release. Pregnant inmates who gave birth within eight months of commitment, or who are currently pregnant, may be released for specialized programming. The commissioner must report annually to the legislature on the number and duration of pregnancy-related releases.
