2025 Session Last amended: 1997 session

§ 25.37 — Adulteration

Plain-Language Summary

This section defines adulteration of commercial feed and prohibits the manufacture or sale of adulterated feed. Feed is adulterated when it contains harmful substances, has been produced under unsanitary conditions, is composed of decomposed material, or contains any unauthorized drug or chemical additive. Adulterated feed can endanger livestock health and is a serious violation of state law.

Practical Notes
Selling or distributing adulterated feed can result in criminal charges, civil penalties, and significant liability for harm to livestock. Farmers who purchase feed that makes their animals sick should keep samples of the feed and contact both the Department of Agriculture and an attorney. Feed manufacturers should test incoming ingredients and finished products for contaminants.
