2025 Session Last amended: 2020 session

§ 256M.40 — Grant Allocation

Plain-Language Summary

State funds for vulnerable children and adult services are distributed to counties using a formula that weights past funding levels, population size, and the number of child and adult protection reports in each county. Most weight (75 percent) goes to historical county funding levels, with smaller shares based on population and caseload. Funds are paid to counties on or before July 10 of each year.

Practical Notes
The funding formula means counties with more child and adult protection cases receive a larger share of available funds. The formula cannot be changed without public review and legislative input. Counties with growing caseloads may see their share increase over time as more current data is used in the calculation.
