§ 256R.09 — Reporting of Statistical and Cost Reports

Plain-Language Summary

Nursing facilities must file an annual cost report by February 1. The state uses accrual accounting to set payment rates. If a facility submits an incomplete or late report, its payments can be cut to 85 percent until the report is filed. Records must be kept for at least seven years.

Practical Notes
Facilities can amend cost reports within 12 months if errors or omissions are found, but only if the change would affect the rate by at least 0.15 percent of the statewide average. No extensions to the filing deadline are allowed. Submitting knowingly false information can result in immediate rate adjustment, contract termination, and criminal prosecution.
