§ 268B.04 — Financial Eligibility; Benefits

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains how to apply for paid leave benefits and how the benefit amount is calculated. Applications can be filed up to 60 days before leave starts. Your weekly benefit is based on your wages, with lower-wage workers getting a higher percentage of their pay replaced. You can receive up to 12 weeks of medical leave and up to 12 weeks of family leave in a benefit year, with a combined maximum of 20 weeks.

Practical Notes
Your weekly benefit amount depends on your wages compared to the state average. Workers earning less than 50% of the state average weekly wage get 90% of their pay replaced. The maximum weekly benefit equals the state average weekly wage. You must have earned at least 5.3% of the state average annual wage during your base period to qualify.
