§ 268B.29 — Small Employer Assistance Grants

Plain-Language Summary

This section creates a grant program to help small employers cover the cost of replacing workers who are on paid leave. Employers with 30 or fewer employees and average wages at or below 150% of the state average can apply for grants of up to $3,000 per leave event, with a maximum of $6,000 per year.

Practical Notes
Small businesses can use these grants to hire temporary workers or pay overtime to current employees who cover for someone on leave. The total statewide funding is capped at $5 million per year. Employers with private plans are not eligible. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funding runs out.
