§ 309.55 — Prohibited Practices

Plain-Language Summary

This section lists things that charities and their fundraisers are not allowed to do. They cannot use someone's name without written permission, use confusing names that look like another charity, misrepresent that state registration is an endorsement, use uniformed government workers to solicit, engage in deceptive practices, or sell donor lists without consent.

Practical Notes
These rules protect donors from being misled. A charity cannot imply that being registered means the state approves of it. Selling or sharing a list of donors requires each donor’s consent. Firefighters are the one exception to the ban on soliciting in government uniforms. Violating these rules can lead to court action by the Attorney General.
