§ 336.3-504 — Excused Presentment and Notice of Dishonor

Plain-Language Summary

Excused presentment occurs when the person expected to pay is dead or insolvent, the instrument has been dishonored by nonacceptance, or presentment is impossible. The drawer or endorser waiving presentment is also effective.

Practical Notes
You do not have to formally present a check for payment if the bank is closed, the payer is bankrupt, or similar impossible circumstances exist.
