§ 34A.11 — Embargo, Seizure, and Condemnation

Plain-Language Summary

This section gives the commissioner the power to embargo (hold), seize, and condemn meat and poultry products that are adulterated or misbranded. Condemned products must be destroyed or properly disposed of.

Practical Notes
If inspectors find adulterated or misbranded meat products, they can immediately prevent those products from being sold. Condemned products are typically destroyed to protect public health. The owner can challenge the condemnation in court.
