§ 352B.013 — Authorized Leave of Absence Service Credit Purchase Procedure

Plain-Language Summary

This section explains how State Patrol plan members can buy retirement service credit for time spent on authorized leaves of absence. If payment is made within one year of returning to work, the cost equals the employee and employer contribution rates times the salary rate. If payment is made after one year, a different calculation applies. Members who leave employment during a leave must pay within 30 days of leaving.

Practical Notes
If you took an authorized leave of absence, you can avoid a gap in your retirement service credit by making the required payment. Acting quickly saves money because compound interest is added after one year. Your employer may choose to pay the employer portion on your behalf.
