§ 352B.087 — State-authorized Purchase of Service Credit for Periods of Military Service

Plain-Language Summary

State Patrol plan members can purchase retirement service credit for military service that occurred before they became members or during breaks in covered employment. The cost is calculated using the full actuarial value method. The purchase amount can be paid in a lump sum or in installments through payroll deductions.

Practical Notes
This is a separate option from the federal USERRA credit in section 352B.086. It covers military service that may not qualify under federal law. The full actuarial cost method means the purchase price reflects the actual cost to the fund of providing the additional benefits.
