§ 387.15 — Temporary Jury Bailiffs

Plain-Language Summary

If a juror is a different sex than all available jury bailiffs, the judge can order the sheriff to appoint a special deputy of the juror's sex to serve as bailiff until the jury finishes the case. The appointee must be a registered voter of the county and must take an oath before starting.

Practical Notes
This provision ensures that jury members can be properly supervised by a bailiff of the same sex when needed, particularly during overnight sequestration of a jury.
