§ 403.113 — Enhanced 911 Service Costs; Fee

Plain-Language Summary

Part of the 911 fee money is used to pay for enhanced 911 service, which shows a caller's location on the dispatcher's screen. The money is split among qualified counties, the State Patrol, and other agencies. Counties and cities must keep this money in a separate account and can only spend it on approved 911 equipment like phones, computers, mapping software, and trunk lines.

Practical Notes
Enhanced 911 funds cannot be spent on things like remodeling buildings, buying emergency vehicles, or installing road signs. Counties and cities must do an annual audit of how they spend their enhanced 911 money and send the results to the commissioner. Counties that did not set up enhanced 911 by December 31, 1998 are not eligible for this funding.
