§ 403.162 — Administration of Prepaid Wireless E911 Fees

Plain-Language Summary

Stores that sell prepaid wireless service must send the collected E911, telecom access, and 988 fees to the Department of Revenue using the same process as sales tax. Sellers can keep 3% of the fees to cover their costs. The Department of Revenue splits the money among the 911 fund, the telecommunications access fund, and the 988 crisis line fund.

Practical Notes
If you sell prepaid wireless service, you must register with the Department of Revenue and submit fees on the same schedule as sales tax. The same audit, penalty, and enforcement rules that apply to sales tax also apply to these fees. The Department of Revenue keeps up to 2% to cover its own administrative costs.
