§ 465.035 — Public Corporation, Conveyance or Lease of Land

Any county, town, city, or other public body can lease or give its land to the state, federal government, another public body, or the Minnesota Armory Commission for public use. The land can be given for free, for a small amount, or for an agreed-upon price, as long as the governing body approves.

465.035 PUBLIC CORPORATION, CONVEYANCE OR LEASE OF LAND.

Any county, town, city or other public corporation may lease or convey its lands for a nominal consideration, without consideration or for such consideration as may be agreed upon to the state or to any governmental subdivision, to the United States or to any agency of the federal government, another public corporation or to the Minnesota State Armory Building commission for public use when authorized by its governing body.

Practical Notes

This gives local governments flexibility to transfer property to other government entities for public purposes without requiring market-rate sales. It is commonly used for intergovernmental land transfers for parks, buildings, and other public facilities.
