§ 477A.35 — Local Affordable Housing Aid

Plain-Language Summary

This section provides Local Affordable Housing Aid to metropolitan counties and larger metropolitan cities. Aid amounts are based on each jurisdiction's share of cost-burdened households—those spending 30 percent or more of their income on housing. Recipients must use the money for qualifying affordable housing projects and must report annually to the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. Funds that are not spent properly must be repaid.

Practical Notes
This aid is available only to metropolitan counties and cities of the first through third class in the metro area. Jurisdictions must supplement (not replace) their existing housing spending to remain eligible. Misuse of funds or failure to report results in repayment requirements and can lead to suspended future distributions. The funding comes from a special housing assistance fund under section 477A.37.
