2025 Session Last amended: 1999 session

§ 504B.425 — Judgment

Plain-Language Summary

When a court finds building violations exist, it can order the landlord to make repairs, let the tenant fix problems and deduct costs from rent, appoint a building administrator to manage the property, reduce rent based on how much the problems affect livability, or grant other relief including up to $500 in attorney fees.

Practical Notes
If you win a building violation case, the court has wide authority to order repairs, lower your rent, or even appoint someone to manage the building until conditions improve.
