§ 514.22 — Conduct of Sale

Plain-Language Summary

This section sets rules for how lien sales must be conducted. The property must be visible during the sale. Only enough property can be sold to cover the debt. The lienholder may buy the property at the sale if a sheriff conducts it.

Practical Notes
When selling property to satisfy a lien, show the property at the sale and sell only enough to cover what is owed. The lienholder can bid at the sale, but a sheriff must run the sale in that case.
