§ 517.08 — Application for License

Plain-Language Summary

Both parties must apply for a marriage license, providing their names, ages, addresses, prior marriage history, and Social Security numbers. The standard license fee is $125, reduced to $50 for couples who complete at least 12 hours of premarital education. The license is valid for six months.

Practical Notes
One party may complete the application without the other being present, but the absent party must provide a notarized verification statement and proof of age before the license is released. Couples can save $75 on the license fee by completing qualifying premarital education.
