§ 550.19 — Service on Judgment Debtor

Plain-Language Summary

A third party who claims to own property that the sheriff has seized can file a claim with the sheriff. The sheriff may then require the judgment creditor to post a bond before proceeding with the sale.

Practical Notes
If the sheriff seizes property that you believe belongs to you (not the debtor), you can file a claim to stop the sale. This protects innocent third parties whose property is mistakenly seized.
