§ 580.041 — Foreclosure Advice and Redemption Rights Notice to Owners

Plain-Language Summary

When a home with one to four units is being foreclosed, the lender must send the homeowner two special notices: a 'Help for Homeowners in Foreclosure' notice with information about getting free counseling, and a 'Notice of Redemption Rights' explaining the homeowner's right to buy back the home after the sheriff's sale.

Practical Notes
These notices must be on colored paper in large type and must be sent with the foreclosure notice and at least every 60 days until the sale. Homeowners should read these carefully – they contain the reinstatement amount, sale date, and contact information for free foreclosure counseling through the Minnesota Homeownership Center.
