§ 609.0331 — Maximum Penalties; Petty Misdemeanors

609.0331 MAXIMUM PENALTIES; PETTY MISDEMEANORS.
A law of this state that provides, on or after August 1, 2000, for a maximum penalty of $200 for a petty misdemeanor is considered to provide for a maximum fine of $300.

Practical Notes
Since August 1, 2000, the maximum fine for any petty misdemeanor is $300. Petty misdemeanors are the lowest level of offense and do not carry jail time. Common examples include minor traffic violations.
