2025 Session Last amended: 1989 session

§ 609.497 — Engaging in Business of Concealing Criminal Proceeds

Plain-Language Summary

It is a felony to run a business that is primarily engaged in concealing criminal proceeds. The penalty is up to 20 years in prison, a fine up to $200,000, or both. Payment of reasonable attorney fees is not covered.

Practical Notes
This is a more serious version of the money laundering statute that targets people who make a business of hiding criminal money. The penalties are significantly higher than for individual money laundering transactions.
