§ 62A.20 — Continuation Coverage of Current Spouse and Children

Plain-Language Summary

When the primary insured person becomes eligible for Medicare, the spouse and dependent children can continue their health coverage for up to 36 months. Dependent children who age out of the plan can also continue for up to 36 months. The premium cannot exceed 102 percent of the plan cost.

Practical Notes
If your spouse turns 65 and goes on Medicare, you and your children can keep your health coverage for up to three years by paying the premium.
