§ 94.342 — Classes of Land

Plain-Language Summary

State land is divided into classes for exchange purposes. Class A includes state-controlled land like school trust land, state forest land, and tax-forfeited land free from trust. Class B is tax-forfeited land still held in trust for taxing districts. Special rules protect riparian land near public waters, state park land, and school trust land from being exchanged without safeguards.

Practical Notes
The classification of state land determines which exchange rules apply. Riparian land near public waters generally cannot be given away in an exchange unless the state gets equivalent waterfront land in return or the legislature approves. School trust land exchanges require independent legal review.
