§ 97C.001 — Experimental Waters

Plain-Language Summary

This law lets the DNR commissioner pick certain lakes and streams as 'experimental waters' where special fishing rules can be tested. There can be no more than 200 lakes and 50 streams at one time. Before making any changes, the DNR must give public notice, hold meetings, and accept public comments.

Practical Notes
If you fish on a lake or stream labeled as experimental waters, different catch limits, seasons, or methods may apply. Check the DNR website or posted signs at public access points for current special rules. The public can suggest waters for this program and participate in evaluating the results.
