§ 336.4A-202 — Authorized and Verified Payment Orders

Plain-Language Summary

If a bank accepts a payment order that it verified using an agreed security procedure, and the procedure was commercially reasonable, the customer is bound even if the order was unauthorized -- unless the customer proves the order was not caused by someone who obtained access through the customer.

Practical Notes
If your bank uses a reasonable security procedure to verify a wire transfer order and it passes, you are bound even if someone else sent it – unless you can prove how the unauthorized person got access.
