§ 142G.14 — Eligibility; Parenting or Pregnant Minors

Plain-Language Summary

Minor parents (under 18) must live with a parent, legal guardian, adult relative, or in a supervised living arrangement to receive MFIP. Exceptions exist if the minor has no living parent or guardian, or if living with the parent would put the minor or child at risk.

Practical Notes
If you are a teen parent, you generally must live with an adult to get MFIP benefits. The county can help you find an appropriate living arrangement if living with your parent is not safe. The county pays for the cost of supervised living arrangements when needed.
