§ 147.0391 — Residency Permit

Plain-Language Summary

Anyone participating in a medical residency program in Minnesota must have a residency permit unless they already hold a full medical license. The permit costs $20 and requires acceptance into an accredited or board-approved training program. When a resident changes programs, they must notify the board within 30 days and get a new permit.

Practical Notes
Medical residents must obtain a residency permit before beginning their program. A separate permit is needed for each residency program change. Both residents and residency faculty have reporting obligations under section 147.111. Routine academic corrective actions within a program do not trigger reporting requirements.
